breathtaking sonshine

there are no quiet moments
not here where calamity
and foods that crunch are all
anyone ever requests

it’s all announcements and
confrontations with wrestling
masks or guinea pigs sitting
atop newly sculpted haircuts

there was this one time
when they went sunset hunting
while trekking to the rhythm of
michael jackson across a bridge

he stopped mostly because his
mother was on the brink of
a full on panic attack reaching out
for his 5 mph race along the rails

and because she was tracking
her steps and the camera button
was right there only a screen away
she caught him

quiet
standing
still
like the
sun-ray
he is.

i don’t get many moments when my kid will stand still. the great pictures i do get share come at high cost as most moms of boys know. they move full steam ahead no cares about what steam you’re at or even if you have steam. they are ready to go! i didn’t even remember i had this picture till i was looking for inspiration for today’s poem. i love that it captures his curiosity with my favorite cityscape as backdrop.
