Sentinel Sentiment (Joy)

I watch them sleep
In these wee hours
These me hours
I sit and unfold myself
Bedside listening to
Easy breathing
Eyelids flutter
Shy smiles dance
Upon his lips and I
Know the moment
I’ve been waiting for
He laughs out loud
Flipping over I rise
More slowly today
Returning to my own harbor
I settle in
Dreaming my own dream
Where little boys laugh
In their sleep

About This Poem: The prompt for OctPoWriMo Day 24 was guilty pleasure. My son is an asthmatic. Though I have many silky guilty pleasures, listening to him breath deeply is the one that brings me the most joy.

  1. I love listening and watching my 3 yr old sleep because he laughs, too.
