Many people think haiku is all about the 5/7/5 syllables. But the essence is really about an experience in a sharp moment or season, and then to cast the final line in a striking manner — something totally unexpected, but still on target, and carried by the image rather than commentary.
Of course, pulling it off isn’t easy!
Haiku has always been a favorite of mine…I’ve never been very good at it but I wanted to try my hand again in this self challenge. Because its the word art form I ‘fear the most’ I thought let me get it out of the way. Perhaps I will attempt again. I do appreciate your critique though.
Love the snap, the element too often missing from attempted haiku.
Thanks for the critique. Can you say more on what you mean by ‘attempted haiku’?
