My mind left me to
my fate. Under the circumstances
I watched my chance,
disregarded threats and
made my way.
I walked through woods.
My strength failed me.
I fell down for a time.
I nerved myself again and
started through bogs and briers
home.

About this Poem: I am a day late with this submission. I reread the prompt for day and picked a book at random from my book shelf. I then picked a page at random from the book without paying much attention to the cover. Mind blown. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is my most favorite autobiography. One could say I am fan of Mr. Douglass, but anyone who knows me knows that my interest in Mr. Douglass’ life and work reaches far beyond fandom. It was my complete pleasure to create this piece from his work. Thank you for the prompt. If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Douglass, I recommend you begin here with Frederick Douglass Comes to Life.
